Guide Philosophy
What is a genuine guide?
A genuine guide is someone who has walked a portion of the path — and who, from that experience, can offer clarity, support, and honest pointing to those who are earlier in their journey.
A genuine guide does not claim to be the destination. They do not build empires of followers. They do not profit from the seeker’s longing. They do not manufacture dependency by making themselves indispensable.
The deepest sign of a genuine guide is this: over time, they become less necessary — because the seeker is turning more genuinely inward, becoming more self-sufficient, more clear, more free.
“Do not worship the finger. Look where it points.”
The Relationship
What guidance is — and is not.
A genuine guide can
- ✦Clarify confusion that solo inquiry cannot
- ✦Share direct experience of the path
- ✦Offer practices suited to the seeker's stage
- ✦Point out ego-traps before they close
- ✦Sit in genuine presence with a seeker
No guide can ever
- ✗Awaken for the seeker — ever
- ✗See what only the seeker can see
- ✗Walk the inward path on the seeker's behalf
- ✗Guarantee any spiritual outcome
- ✗Become a substitute for the Self
A genuine guide must
- →Point inward, not toward themselves
- →Make themselves progressively less necessary
- →Acknowledge the limits of their knowledge
- →Welcome sincere questions and doubt
- →Serve the seeker's liberation — not their loyalty
Sacred Commitment
Guide Code of Conduct (highlights).
Every guide listed on Return to Source must read, understand, and agree to the full code before being listed.
No guaranteed enlightenment claims
A guide must never claim that following their teaching will produce enlightenment, realization, or awakening.
No emotional dependency
A genuine guide consistently redirects the seeker toward their own awareness and inner authority.
No financial pressure
Seekers must never feel pressured, shamed, or guilt-tripped into financial contribution.
No isolation of seekers
Guides must never encourage seekers to distance themselves from family or community.
Full financial transparency
All fees, suggested donations, and arrangements must be clearly disclosed before any commitment.
No sexual exploitation
Sexual relationships between a guide and a seeker they are actively guiding are prohibited.
Guide Verification Framework
What verification means — and does not mean.
Return to Source does not certify anyone as enlightened, realised, or spiritually advanced. Guide verification is an administrative and ethical review process only. It confirms that a guide has met the criteria below. It does not evaluate the depth of a guide's realisation, the quality of their pointing, or the appropriateness of their guidance for any particular seeker. Every seeker must apply their own discrimination, ask their own questions, and trust their own honest experience.
